Why I started this

I spent eleven years at Kaiser Permanente as a benefits coordinator and a claims, billing and accounting specialist. My job was to sit between patients, doctors' offices, hospitals and insurance carriers and make the pieces line up.

That meant I was the person on the phone when a claim came back denied. When a bill arrived that didn't match what someone had been told. When a procedure everyone assumed was covered turned out not to be, because of a rule buried on page forty of a document nobody reads.

After a decade of those calls, I noticed something. Almost none of it was bad luck. Most of it traced back to a decision made months earlier, a plan chosen quickly, by someone who was never told what they were choosing.

So I got licensed and started Marshall Made Plans. Not to sell insurance, plenty of people already do that. To make sure the person buying it actually understands what they're getting, before the bill shows up.
